What is talk therapy?
Talk therapy is what people typically think of then when they think of therapy. It is the time for a person to share, open up, explore, and discover more about themselves, to vent, rant, and to receive feedback and guidance. The therapist is there to help guide the conversation and to contain the big feelings that may come up in sessions.
What to expect
When you come to a talk therapy session at Chosen Growth you can expect a warm welcome and an hour of you time. We will spend some time catching up on what has happened since we last met and then dive into what you feel like you need to work through whether it is a new issue or something we have been working on long term. You can expect to learn tools for maintaining mental health and have the time to practice them together in session. Have a notebook and a pen with you so you can take notes on what we go over for you to refer back to later. I want you to leave sessions feeling heard and understood, and hopefully feeling a bit better than when you came in!
What if I am shy?
Being shy and anxious for the first few sessions is completely normal and expected! Opening up to a stranger is difficult, especially about emotions or trauma. Rest assured we will go at your pace and we will establish a good relationship with each other before diving too deeply. Trust is very important in the therapeutic relationship and is always going to be one of our first goals together.

Talk Therapy
Traditional sit down and talk it out style therapy. Spend time being listened to and really heard as you share your problems and come up with solutions. You will learn mental tools and coping strategies to continue supporting yourself outside of our sessions together.

Art Therapy
Similar to talk therapy with the addition of art and art supplies as an extra form of communication and self-exploration. Art therapy is a gentle way of going deep into emotion and expressing yourself. Creativity and artistic skills are NOT required. Suitable for everyone.

RPG Therapy
RPG therapy is a fun and easy way to make self-discoveries and gently work your way through difficulties. Through the use of a character and game like set up you can work on problems at a comfortable distance and get a third person view on them.
